Home About Me Wedding!

Most quotable movies of all time

Not much explanation needed here. Although I will remark that this seems to be more of a stupid man-thing than something girls care about. I am a huge movie lover, and I (like most dudes) latch on to any stupid catch phrase that cracks us up. Men refuse to talk about relationships, feelings or gossip, but we will have a 2 hour quotefest spouting out random movie quotes and ridiculing the other guys if they don't happen to know which movie it's from. Anyway, I'm sure there will be much spirited debate on this topic. I'm listing what I consider the most quotable movies ever (in no particular order).

Caddyshack
Pulp Fiction
Top Gun
40 Year Old Virgin
Ferris Bueller's Day off
Breakfast Club
Happy Gilmore
Fast Times at Ridgemont High
Swingers

.... and of course: Office Space

I want to know YOUR opinion!

Steve's Gravatar How could you miss Dumb and Dumber and helloooooo Animal House!

Matt's Gravatar You forgot Anchorman? How'd you do that? Heck, I'm not even mad; that's amazing.

Jim Bambrough's Gravatar @Steve - Animal House, good call. Totally spaced that one (Toga, Toga).

Jim Bambrough's Gravatar @Matt - Anchorman was actually one of my honorable mentions that didn't quite make the cut. But definitely very quotable, no doubt (it's the pleats)

Dan's Gravatar #1 for me is Office Space: Yeah, I am going to need you to come in this weekend.
Wayne's World: Scchwwing. I think I am going to hurl.
Dirty Harry: This here is a 44 magnum...the most powerful handgun in the world.....Now you have to ask yourself, you feel lucky. Well, do yeah. Plus, go ahead, make my day.
Old School: Were going streaking...Earmuffs.

Mike's Gravatar I'd definitely add Tombstone. and Godfather. Dirty Harry and Terminator might not be very quotable overall, but they sure had their moments.

Martin's Gravatar Don't forget about The Blues Brothers, I quote that one way too much.

My Blue Heaven.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Goodfellas, of course.

Garvin's Gravatar I hate to admit it but I have been hear to quote Napoleon Dynamite from time to time....Gosh!
# Posted By Garvin | 1/9/09 8:47 PM
Jason's Gravatar I'd personally put The Princess Bride on that list.

INCONCEIVABLE!

Jim Bambrough's Gravatar All good suggestions. I'd also had Old School and Napoleon Dynamite on my honorable mention list.

@Jason - Princess Bride. Really?? The board might need to review the status of your man-card

Garvin's Gravatar I have to agree with Jason. Come on the Princess Bride was an awesome movie with some really great quotes.

"My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die."
# Posted By Garvin | 1/12/09 12:18 PM
Jim Bambrough's Gravatar @Garvin - I will admit that I've never actually seen the movie. But then again, unlike Jason and Garvin, I don't have kids
# Posted By Jim Bambrough | 1/12/09 12:22 PM
Garvin's Gravatar its not really a kid's movie but it is kid appropriate...put it on your list of movies to watch. Some great performances and Andre The Giant...who can pass up a movie with The Giant?
# Posted By Garvin | 1/12/09 12:26 PM
Mike's Gravatar Princess Bride has some classic quotes

"You ever hear of Plato?! Aristotle?! Socrates?!"

"Yes."

"Morons."

Dan's Gravatar Jim, sorry, but if you have Top Gun on your list, then you can not talk about Princess Bride. Even though, I am not a fan of that type of comedy, it is pretty good. Billy Crystal, Fred Savage and Columbo ( I think thats him)
star in it. Also, the scene with Billy Crystal (play'n a healer/mystic)..."he is not dead, he is almost dead". Put down the beach scene with no shirts in jeans, and insert Princess Bride.

Naploean Dynamite gets my #1 vote, at least under the category of most current. Pedro offers you his protection! Plus, the dozen quotes by Uncle Rico, I could of been all-state!

vern's Gravatar I'll throw in my vote for the princess bride as one of the most quotable movies of all time: "iocane powder, I bet my life on it once". I'll take animal house as well since it's filmed in my hometown of Eugene, OR.

Jim Bambrough's Gravatar Wow, apparently I've been missing out on Princess Bride. I will have to check it out. I actually thought of another highly quotable movie, and I'm ashamed that nobody (including myself) has mentioned it: Airplane!

Martin's Gravatar "A hospital?! What is it?"
"It's a big building with patients, but that's not important right now."

"I am serious, and don't call me Shirley".
# Posted By Martin | 1/21/09 4:11 PM
Martin's Gravatar From The Princess Bride:

"No more rhyming, and I mean it!"
"Does anybody want a peanut?"
# Posted By Martin | 1/21/09 4:12 PM
vern's Gravatar From airplane: "Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue."
